Tayside rockers call it quits

-

A Tayside band who toured in Japan, played sold-out shows in Russia and recorded an album at the same studio as the Libertines have split.

The Mirror Trap, who had been together for almost a decade, have called time on their incarnation after two of their founding members decided to move on.

Having caught the eye of then-agent and former Dundee and Dundee United football star Lee Wilkie, the band went on to win the favour of Dundee-raised stadium rocker Brian Molko, who took them on tour across Europe, including a sold-out trek across Russia.

The band were also signed with Dundee-based Riverman Management, whose cofounder Dave McLean is producing a biopic set in the city during the 1980s called Schemers.

They also enjoyed a headline slot at Carnival 56 at Camperdown Park last summer.

Lead singer Gary Moore thanked everyone who had helped the band throughout their nine-year existence.

He said: “This band has been our life for almost as long as I can remember and this has been a very difficult decision.

“We would like to thank everyone that has ever listened to our music, come to our shows or helped us in any way.

“This has been an amazing ride and it would not have been possible without a whole cast of beautiful characters, to whom we are forever in your debt.”
