Dutch firm to build museum website

-

The website set to sell Scotland’s first museum of design to the globe will be built by a Dutch company behind some of the world’s most visited web pages.

Your Majesty – which has offices in Amsterdam, New York and London and boasts a client list including Netflix, Airbnb, Adidas, Spotify and BMW – has secured the contract to produce the website for the V&A Dundee after a competitive tendering process that saw it beat 11 other online companies to the deal.

It is not yet known if any local technology companies bid towards providing website services for the V&A.

EU rules permit companies from outside the UK to bid for projects for public bodies, and more than 100 notes of interest were placed from firms across Europe.

The site will launch as the opening date for the multimillion-pound Waterfront attraction nears. The museum is to open to the public on September 15 and is expected to attract as many as 500,000 extra visitors to the city in its first 12 months.

The cost of the project will total £80,000 and V&A bosses hope the design of the site will be a key element of the visitor journey and a “fundamental” part of how they will communicate with their audiences.

A V&A Dundee spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be working with developers Your Majesty, the company that best met the criteria for our launch website.”
