Drunk hurled abuse at teenagers before urinating in public

-

A drunk who hurled obscenities at two teenagers before urinating has been given community service.

Mark Netherington, 49, of Kingswell Terrace, Perth, admitted threatening and abusing the two girls, aged 16 and 19, in the early hours of August 6 last year.

Yesterday, Perth Sheriff Court heard Netherington swore and repeatedly banged on a door at an address on Dunsinane Drive, forcing the two girls, who were in a bedroom in the house, to call the police.

At around 1.30am, the two witnesses, who did not know Netherington, heard banging on the front door.

When they opened the door they saw the accused standing outside and told him to go away and keep the noise down as they were trying to sleep.

Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said: “He appeared to be clearly drunk and started to shout and swear at both girls in a threatening and abusive manner using a number of obscenities.

“They told him to get away but he refused and started to urinate.”

Netherington then staggered around in the garden and said he would be back in 40 minutes.

Police were called and arrived at around 3.45am.

Netherington then returned as promised and knocked on the door. The police officer answered and the witness identified him as the same male.

A defence agent for Netherington said he has found it “difficult” hearing about the impact on the witnesses and as a result, has stopped drinking.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work within the next six months.
