Dying Perth woman appeals to football club for one last wish

A dying Perth woman has called on a top Scottish football club to help her fulfil one last wish in a bid to say thank you to her “amazing husband”.

Tracey Halliday, 40, is appealing to Scottish Premiership side Hibernian FC to make a dream come true for husband Willie who has nursed her all through her long illness.

She said: “Willie has been a lifelong Hibs fan.

“It would be amazing if they could help me do something special for him before I die.

“If he could meet some of the players that would be a dying wish for me. I want to put one final smile on his face.”

Tracey was diagnosed with cancer of the womb in 2015 when she was only 38 and planning her wedding to Willie.

She thought about delaying their nuptials, but went ahead in spite of her battle.

It meant that while she was planning the big day, she was also going through treatment for the disease.

Tracey said: “I had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy as well as a hysterectomy in 2015. I finished my treatment at the end of June 2015 and got married at the end of July.”

At the end of last year Tracey was told her cancer had come back and is terminal.

She said: “It has spread to my stomach and lungs.

“I hoped I could fight this but I have accepted I’m dying. I will continue to get treatment, but it is not going to cure me.

“The doctors have said they can’t tell me how long I’ve got, but I know it’s not going to be very long.”

Tracey said that while she was coping, she was really upset and worried for Willie.

She said: “He has been amazing. He is my main carer and does absolutely everything for me.

“I’m appealing to Hibs to help me do something to thank him for everything he has done for me.”

Hibernian FC have been approached for comment but had not responded at the time of going to press.
