Dark Blues’ Kamara in demand

-

English Premier League outfit Swansea have been linked with a possible move for Dundee’s Glen Kamara, writes Neil Robertson.

The former Arsenal academy midfielder has been a big success since joining the Dark Blues last summer and has been a virtual ever-present in Neil McCann’s side.

The 22-year-old Finnish international’s composed displays for Dundee are also understood to have put him on the radar of Celtic and Rangers.

However, Kamara still has a year left on his deal at Dens and the club are sure to fight hard to keep their key player especially after losing another highly-rated youngster, Jack Hendry, in the last transfer window to the Hoops for what was a club record transfer fee.

Meanwhile, Craig Wighton has insisted that merely staying up isn’t the height of Dundee’s post-split ambitions.

The 20-year-old, who started his first game since knee surgery against St Johnstone on Saturday, wants the win over the Perth men to provide a platform for climbing up their half of the table.

He said: “We’ve said we wanted to win the five games after the split and that’s one out of the way.

“It’s a mini-league and we want to win it.

“Saturday was a great start but we can’t dwell on it because it’s done now.

“We are looking ahead to Motherwell and preparing for that one.

“Everyone here is pulling in the same direction.

“We’ve not got points when we should have. Even so, we’ve never changed the way we play.

“You could see that against St Johnstone. It was a big game but we still tried to play the same way.

“At the same time, it is all about getting results, and we need to combine that with the good football we play.

“I think Saturday was an example of that.”

On a personal note, a run of starts will be the perfect way to finish a season that has only just begun for the forward.

Wighton said: “I played a few games for the under-20s but in terms of the first team it is over a year, and I have rarely played 90 minutes at that level anyway.

“I felt a wee bit leggy at the end but I didn’t cramp up.

“I enjoyed playing where I was and that’s probably my best position.

“We changed things a wee bit and I went out on the left but I got some joy there as well.”
