Father figure’s big draw for Caidee

-

Draw Your Dad, The Courier’s colourful celebration of dads for Father’s Day, launched this week. Don’t miss the chance to take part in this fun project. It’s time for P3 and P4 pupils all over Courier Country to get their pens and pencils out and come up with an eye-catching portrait of their dad.

Following the success of last year’s Draw Your Dad, The Courier will be encouraging youngsters to put on their artist’s hats once more ahead of Father’s Day on June 17.

The pictures, along with a short message written from the children to their fathers, will be published in a series of supplements in The Courier. We will print every picture we receive.

Draw Your Dad is a completely free initiative and The Courier hopes that hundreds of youngsters across Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perthshire take the chance to draw a tribute to their dads, which they will be able to see in print.

Each child can enter one picture and, as we understand that not all children have a dad in their lives, the drawing can also be of the male figure who is most important to them.

Caidee Wilson, 8, a pupil at Lynburn Primary School in Dunfermline, took part in Draw Your Dad last year and her picture of dad William made such an impression on the team here at The Courier that it has been chosen as this year’s logo. Caidee is now in primary four and, according to mum Amanda Nellis and dad William Wilson: “Is absolutely over the moon that her drawing has been chosen.”

Caidee, who has ADHD and sensory processing difficulties, loves drawing and having her picture chosen to represent Draw Your Dad has really given her a confidence boost. “She loves her art and her pictures are almost like caricatures,” said Amanda.

William has really enjoyed being the subject of his daughter’s portraits. He said:“I’m so proud of Caidee and her amazing picture. I wish I looked as good as the drawing.”

If your school has registered an interest in Draw Your Dad, they will receive a welcome pack this week. If you haven’t registered but would like to take part, please contact kstephen@dctmedia.co.uk to request your pack. All pictures need to be returned to The Courier by Monday May 21 to give our team time to prepare them for publication.

This project is open to primaries three and four only. Please remember to include your participation slip with your entries in order to permit us to publish the drawings.
