Train conductor to stand trial

-

A conductor is to stand trial accused of leaving the doors of a moving train unlocked while under the influence of cannabis.

Sean Cairney, 43, of Oxgangs Farm Drive in Edinburgh, is alleged to have committed the offence on May 26 last year on a train between Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy.

He is accused of culpably and recklessly failing to lock the doors on board the public service train while travelling between the two stations. The charges claim that, by doing so, he exposed the travellers within to risk of injury.

The conductor is also said to have carried out the offence after having ingested or inhaled a quantity of cannabis.

Mr Cairney’s case called at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing and he was not in attendance.

An intermediate diet is due to take place on July 13 ahead of the trial on July 26.
