The Church of Scotland is being asked to consider replacing its hymn book in a bid to adapt to modern times. However, a church report today warned of the potential for “real danger” from an over-enthusiast­ic updating of the language of hymns. While acknowledg­ing the church must address modern concerns, like the role of women, while preserving the richness of hymn language, it said there is no “failsafe” way of reconcilin­g both. It pointed out there are possible pitfalls.
