Deefiant team member Higgins to hang up his boots at age of 33

-

Former Dundee and St Johnstone striker Sean Higgins is to retire from professional football at the age of 33.

He was part of the Deefiant team at Dens but only played six games for Saints.

Higgins scored five goals in 34 appearances for relegated League 1 side Albion Rovers this season but is argaubly best remembered for his successful seven-year spell at Ross County, where he helped clinch the second division title in 2008.

Higgins also won the Challenge Cup with Dundee. He also played for Falkirk, Ayr United, Stenhousemuir, Cowdenbeath and Clyde.

● Elgin City boss Gavin Price has signed a new two-year contract with the League 2 side despite narrowly missing out on the promotion play-offs this season.

The 43-year-old joined the Borough Briggs outfit in November 2014 as assistant to Jim Weir following spells in charge of Perth junior outfits Kinnoull and Jeanfield Swifts.

Price declined the opportunity to follow Weir to Forfar last October after being offered the chance to succeed his former St Johnstone team-mate.

His efforts have earned him a deal which keeps him at Elgin until 2020.
