Ex-provost in dangerous driving case
The former provost of Perth is to appear in court facing a dangerous driving charge.
John Hulbert – who served as head of Perth and Kinross Council from 2006 to 2012 – is alleged to have caused a crash on Perth Road, Dundee, on October 10 last year.
Prosecutors say he drove a Volkswagen Golf hatchback dangerously and failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle.
It is said he swerved on to the opposing carriageway on Perth Road – which runs from Ninewells Hospital on the eastern outskirts to the city centre, passing schools, residential houses and university buildings – before mounting a pavement and crashing into a bus stop.
Hulbert, 79, of Castle Road, Longforgan, Perthshire, did not appear at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday for the first calling of the case.
His lawyers asked for the case to be continued without a plea being entered until later this month, to allow for defence investigations.
Sheriff Linda Smith continued the case until May 25.
