Grove aim to be cup giant killers

-

With their fourth consecutive national league title safely tucked away, Edinburgh University are now looking to defend their Scottish Cup honours against Grove Menzieshill in tomorrow’s anticipated blockbuster at Glasgow Green.

The box office ticket includes three further finals with Ellon and Glasgow University III first to kick off at 10am, followed by Edinburgh University IV against Orkney at noon before Edinburgh University II line up against Clydesdale Western in the Plate finale.

With a league differential of 11 points, the Edinburgh students go into the final as the form team. Coach Sam Judge will be wary, however, of Grove’s capability to produce a giant-killing performance over the course of a “winner takes all” 70 minutes.

The long-standing adversaries should be back at full strength with the return of their Gold Coast internationalists.

Both are blessed with a multitude of star strikers guaranteeing plenty of skills, thrills and goalmouth action.

A shock defeat in the early stages dumped Clydesdale Western into the Plate. There is no doubt as to the destination of this trophy despite Edinburgh Uni seconds contesting the Championship League 1 title.

Elsewhere, along the M8 today’s stakes are high for Watsonians as they aspire to make their debut in next weekend’s crucial European play-offs with a positive result against GHK.

Wildcats occupy fourth spot in the table but the capital side are hot tips to finish with a win to leapfrog the Cats on goal difference.

The Midland Knock Out Cup and Plate finals are taking place at DISC.

League champions Madras FP should have the edge over Wanderers II, while Brechin Thistles are predicted to lift the Plate silverware against St Andrews IV.
