Kiltwalk mum helps raise £3.5K for medics who saved son’s life

-

A Perth mum has expressed her gratitude to medics at Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital for saving her son’s life by raising £3,500 through a Kiltwalk.

Charlotte Lorimer was joined by her sister, Mel, and pals Elayne, Jennifer and Michelle on the Glasgow Kiltwalk, a 15-mile hike that left them “pretty sore”.

However, it was all worth it as they beat their fundraising target of £1,000 by collecting more than three times that.

Every penny is going to the hospital to help in its valuable life-saving work.

Charlotte’s son Luca was born in August 2016 and it was soon discovered he had a complex congenital heart defect.

Charlotte, who works at Noah’s entertainment centre in Perth, said: “Luca had to undergo surgery 18 days after he was born.

“And before he reached one year old, he had eight more operations.

“We were forever heading to hospital for Luca as he was just so unwell.”

The tot had so many admissions to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit that Charlotte lost count.

She added: “Without the care of the medics, Luca just would not be here.

“I just had to give something back to the medical people for all they have done.

“So me, my sister and pals decided to do the Kiltwalk. It was a long haul but we were determined to do it.

“We are delighted to have raised £3,500, especially as we had aimed for £1,000.

“The Kiltwalk was great fun. It really was some day.

“We had a few laughs along the way. Fifteen miles seemed very daunting but we did it. We were pretty sore but we managed to complete the course.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has donated.

“Their generosity is superb. Kiltwalk tops up what is raised, so the amount will exceed £3,500.”
