Love at first bite as ‘royal dogs’ wed
A dog couple named after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been “married” in a ceremony in Fife.
Newfoundland puppy Prince Harry and springer spaniel Maeghan got hitched at a special doggy ceremony in the village of Leslie.
The pooch pair enjoyed a furrytail wedding in Harry’s owners’ – Andrea Johnston, 64, and her daughter Stacey Kilpatrick, 30 – back garden.
Royalist owners of Harry were even sent best wishes from Kensington Palace and his human namesake when they wrote to inform them of the inspiration behind their pup’s name last year.
Stacey could not handle her excitement over the pet equivalent of this weekend’s big wedding.
She said: “We were so excited about the alternative royal wedding.
“We love the royal family and even named our beloved Harry after Prince Harry.”
Elaine Warburton, of dog holiday company Barking Mad, helped the two pooches hook up.
She said: “We all adore our Prince Harry. He’s such a gorgeous, friendly boy and is always happy.
“The holiday host he stays with absolutely loves looking after him when Stacey and Andrea go away.
“We decided that it was a shame that he didn’t have a companion called Meghan too and launched our very own search, to commemorate the marriage of the human Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.”
Maeghan’s owner, Helen Teevan, 50, was amazed her dog was chosen for the unusual wedding.
She said: “When we heard that Harry was looking for his Meghan we thought it would be a wee bit of a laugh and so put our gorgeous girl forward.
“We were amazed when she was picked but so glad Maeghan will be Harry’s special furbie friend.”
