Inspirational pupils secure funding for bereavement charity
A team of pupils from Morrison’s Academy have scored a major cash boost for a national bereavement charity.
The S3 students were challenged to create a persuasive presentation on a chosen cause as part of their school’s Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).
It is the first time the school has taken part in the scheme. Working in teams, each group of pupils researched social issues in Perth and Kinross.
At the school finals, winning teams from each class presented in front of a large audience and a panel of high-profile judges in support of their chosen charities.
The YPI regional coordinator Jane Clifford and representatives from the chosen charities congratulated the pupils on the incredibly high standard of work produced.
The winning group, made up of five S3 girls, created a powerful and compelling case for bereavement counselling charity Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland. The charity, staffed by volunteers, has offered bereavement support to people throughout Scotland since 1959.
Modern studies teacher and leader of the initiative within the school Clare Cully, said: “I am delighted that £3,000 was granted to Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland at our grand final.
“The judges and audience were extremely impressed with the creative and emotional presentation from the winning team.”
She said: “We are very proud of the hard work and enthusiasm they – and all the pupils involved – displayed throughout the process.”
