Keeper pulls out of Latin America trip
New Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has become the latest player to pull out of the Scotland squad heading to Peru and Mexico, the Scottish Football Association has confirmed.
No reason was given for his withdrawal but his absence means Celtic shotstopper Scott Bain has been handed an international return.
McGregor clinched his move back to Ibrox on Wednesday after penning a two-year deal.
The 36-year-old’s impressive form over the past 12 months saw him named Hull’s player of the year but McGregor left Tigers boss Nigel Adkins disappointed when he rejected an offer to remain at the KCOM Stadium in favour of rejoining the Gers.
But he will not be making the transatlantic trip, where the Scots are due to face Peru in Lima on May 29 before travelling to Mexico City for the June 2 clash with the Mexicans.
His place now goes to Bain, who was also celebrating last week after making his Parkhead switch from Dundee permanent having signed a four-year agreement.
Boss Alex McLeish has already seen Matt Ritchie, Ryan Fraser and Barry Douglas pull out. John Souttar remains an injury doubt while Celtic stars Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths are among a number of regulars who have been left out.
Motherwell winger Chris Cadden and Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell are the only other players so far added to the original 24-man squad.
