Police hunt topless attacker after serious assault in car park.
Police conduct house-tohouse inquiries after victim rushed to hospital with serious injuries
Police in Perth are hunting a topless attacker after a serious assault in a supermarket car park.
A 43-year-old man was badly hurt in the incident at Morrisons on Caledonian Road.
He has been in hospital since the attack, which happened at about 6.45pm on Thursday.
Yesterday, Police Scotland issued a plea for witnesses. They want to know where the “bare-chested” attacker, wearing distinctive round sunglasses, fled to after leaving the car park area.
A force spokesman said: “The male was seriously injured in the incident and has been detained in hospital due to the injuries sustained.
“The male responsible is described as a white male, in his 30s. He is about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and with dark hair.”
He said: “The attacker was bare chested and was wearing light coloured shorts or jogging bottoms and round black sunglasses at the time of the attack.”
Investigators are trawling through CCTV footage and carrying out door-todoor enquiries.
Neighbours said the area around the car park area, as well as a neighbouring playground, can be a magnet for trouble-makers.
One resident said: “Because the weather has been so good, we’ve had a lot of people hanging around outside, drinking.
“It usually starts in good spirits, but sometimes turns nasty.”
The supermarket car park is protected by round-the-clock security cameras. There are also CCTV units trained on neighbouring shops and roads.
Police have been carrying out inquiries at nearby flats which overlook the store.
They say the supermarket would have been busy with shoppers at the time, while scores of commuters making their way home on surrounding streets may have seen something suspicious.
Anyone who saw the attacker before or after the incident is urged to call 101 or freephone Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
