Crieff residents urged to have say over accident blackspot plan

-

Members of the public are being urged to help shape a £320,000 road safety scheme at a Crieff accident blackspot.

Campaigners have welcomed progress on new measures for the junction of Broich Road, King Street and Burrell Street.

There have been calls to improve the route for several years, but the campaign intensified after a serious accident in November 2015.

Now Perth and Kinross Council has confirmed it is working on proposals to realign the junction.

And the local authority wants to hear people’s views to help finalise the design.

A spokesman said: “The proposals would change the existing priorities, with Broich Road having priority through to a ‘give way’ junction with Burrell Street.

“Traffic from King Street would have to give way to traffic on Broich Road. Also, as part of these proposals, three new crossing locations are proposed to improve pedestrian safety.”

He said: “At this stage of the process, the council would like to gather the thoughts and opinions on our proposals from the local community. This will help guide on how the council proceeds with the finalised layout and detailed design.”

The proposals will be posted on the council’s website.

Feedback should be submitted by email to utc@pkc. gov.uk or in writing to the traffic and network team at Pullar House by Friday, June 1.

Planning consent is in place for three development proposals along Broich Road and the council will claim back the costs it incurs through the major roadworks project from local businesses at a later date.

Campaigner Craig Finlay has welcomed the plan.
