On Saturday the world watched Prince Harry wed actress Meghan Markle and all eyes were on The Dress.

Just like her new sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, did seven years ago, Meghan chose a British woman to design her wedding dress – after many years as artistic director at Pringle of Scotland and Chloe, Clare Waight Keller was appointed as the first ever female artistic director at Givenchy just last year. (Perhaps the royal commission was a nod to Meghan’s feminist views).

The pure white gown was similar to two Givenchy wedding dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn; the dress in Funny Face (1957) combined with the gown Hepburn modelled for photographer Irving Penn (1964).

Meghan’s bespoke Givenchy dress was – as one would expect from a haute couture fashion house – beautiful and impeccably cut.

The elegant silhouette was an ideal choice for the California-girl, while the diamond bandeau tiara (lent to her by Queen Elizabeth) and 16-foot veil were a regal nod to her new role within the British royal family.

The finishing touches were modern and fresh.

Minimal make-up let Meghan’s natural beauty shine through, while her hair was a neater version of her everyday messy bun.

All-in-all, the new Duchess of Sussex did not disappoint her fans, and is sure to have inspired a new trend in bridal wear.

?? ?? The dresses of the two most recent royal brides were very different in their designs, Kate’s, far right, having full lace shoulders and sleeves and a much shorter veil.
