Cancer advice service on board

-

A mobile cancer advice service is coming to Perthshire to offer free specialist information.

The Macmillan Cancer Support bus will arrive in Pitlochry on Thursday and will be in Perth the following day.

It will be based outside Pitlochry Co-Op on West Moulin Road and outside Debenhams on Perth High Street.

Specialists on board will give support to anyone who has cancer, is worried about someone close to them, or is concerned about any symptoms.

Macmillan also provides information and advice on financial issues – crucial, since research suggests cancer patients are on average £420 worse off each month.

The service will be available from 9am to 4pm both days.

Craig Blackwood, a radiographer and cancer information and support specialist, said: “A cancer diagnosis is devastating and we know it’s not always easy to know where to go for information, or to find someone to talk to.

“We also know that it is hard enough to deal with both the physical and emotional impacts of cancer without the added burden of worrying about your finances.

“Whether you have been diagnosed or are caring for a loved one, we can offer practical information and support about finances and where to access benefits advice and grants.”

Anyone who is unable to attend, or needs help sooner, can call 0808 808 0000.
