Rocketing prices for breeding cattle

A consignmen­t of breeding cattle from Craig Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, soldto a top of £7,100 at Caledonian Marts Ltd show and sale of heifers with calves at foot.

His champion heifer with calf was a Limousin x, realising £6,400 and he sold another pair at £7,100, with his 11 heifers and calves averaging £3,936.

A total of 218 breeding cattle were forward and judge for the day was Richard Wilson, Wairds of Alpity, Arbuthnott.

The reserve champion was a Limousin x from West Thomaston which realised £4,400 and the West Thomaston consignmen­t averaged £3,361. Leading prices: Heifers with calves £5,400 Learielaw.
