One person dead and five injured after A9 accident.

Crash involved three vehicles and eight passengers on busy route near Dunkeld

One person died and five were been injured following a three-vehicle crash on one of Perthshire’s busiest routes yesterday.

Four fire and rescue appliances were called following a three-vehicle collision on the A9 Perth to Inverness road at The Hermitage, near Dunkeld, involving eight passengers at around 2.30pm.

A further four ambulances were dispatched, as well as a trauma team and a Special Operations Response Team.

Police confirmed that one person died and the road was closed in both directions for around six hours while officers deal with the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 2.31pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the A9 near Dunkeld.

“Operations control immediatel­y mobilised a number of fire engines.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Three of the passengers escaped the collision before the fire and rescue team arrived.

Hydraulic equipment was used by the fire service to remove doors, sides and the roof of one vehicle.

Of the five that were trapped, the ambulance service attended to four of the individual­s on the scene.

One passenger required immediate CPR treatment from a fire officer and a member of the trauma team.

All six casualties were then taken to hospital.

The A9 was closed between Little Dunkeld and Birnam from just before 3pm and was reopened at around 8.30pm last night.

Drivers reported being stuck in long tailbacks while the incident was ongoing.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 2.33pm to attend a road traffic incident on the A9 near Dunkeld.

“We dispatched four ambulances, a trauma team and a Special Operations Response Team to the scene and six patients were transporte­d to Ninewells Hospital.”

Two fire and rescue appliances were called to the incident from Perth along with one from Pitlochry and another from Blairgowri­e.”

Senior managers from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also on scene.
