Father jailed for foul-mouthed tirade at Perth primary school

-

A father has been jailed for 14 months for hurling abuse at parents and a member of staff at a primary school.

Christopher Gray, 30, shouted a stream of foulmouthed abuse as young children were leaving Craigie Primary School in Perth at the end of the school day.

Gray, who was drunk, also issued threats of violence towards parents who he felt were mocking his behaviour by laughing at him.

Jailing Gray, from Alligan Crescent, Crieff, for 14 months, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “You arrived at the school at a time when children were potentially coming out. Parents and staff were there and you behaved in a totally unacceptable manner.”

Sheriff Foulis noted Gray was subject to two bail orders at the time of the offence and said: “That just puts the tin lid on it.”

Gray admitted shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence at Craigie Primary School on January 18 this year.

He also admitted threatening a member of the school staff on the same date by making grossly offensive comments towards her.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: “He was seen at about 3.15pm, agitated and under the influence of something. He was shouting and swearing.”

Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said Gray recognised the parent as someone he knew but took offence at his perception that she was laughing at him.

“He certainly shouldn’t have presented himself in the manner he did,” Mr Holmes said. “It is clearly concerning because it involves a school. He has resolved to keep away from alcohol.”
