“Good to see a great deal of interest being shown recently in the old Austin series cars especially the A125 Sheerline, a version of which I owned back in 1964 (reg. no. KNY 50 ),” says Bob Tennant of Monifieth. “The old Dundee Provost’s A125 Limousine reg. no. TS 1 was an extended wheelbase version whereas the one I owned was a short wheelbase version registered back in 1954.

“It shows how much Dundee could afford to spend on the Provost’s official car back then compared to now.

“The long wheelbase limousine version is a rare and at the time of build must have been a very expensive car to buy and run at around 10-12mpg.

“I think the photograph must have been taken in the 1950s at some point when Dundee even hosted a Bentley and Rolls-Royce dealership at Rossleigh Garage located in the middle of the town in the Nethergate opposite the city churches.

“This was at a time when Dundee was a prosperous city with full industrial estates, no retail parks, many good shopping areas throughout the city boundaries, ship yards, jute mills etc – how times have changed.

“Incidentally, Morris Leslie Classic Car Auctions have an Austin A125 Sheerline Limousine as per TS 1 included in their June 9 auction.”
