A cyclist has died after being struck by a lorry in rural Kinross-shire yesterday.

Emergency services were called to an unclassified road on the outskirts of Cleish after reports of a collision involving a man on his bicycle and a lorry at around 10am.

An air ambulance was called to help paramedics but it is understood the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has yet to be released by police, but his relatives have been informed.

The crash happened a few hundred metres outside Cleish, on a route between the B9097 Crook of Devon to Kelty road heading towards Nivingstone Hill.

A large stretch of the B9097 was closed as the severity of the accident became apparent, and stayed shut for most of the day to let crash investigations take place.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Next of kin have been made aware and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had mobilised a number of resources to assist.

However firefighters left the scene at 10.48am after ensuring the area was secure enough for investigations to be carried out.

Anyone who may have seen the accident should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1058 of May 25.
