Prisoner damaged TV and cell

-

A prisoner who smashed up his cell after wardens took away his drug-packed Kinder egg has had an extra 80 days added to his sentence.

Ian Pollard caused more than £700 worth of damage by trashing a TV set and toilet seat and damaging the walls of his cell in Perth Prison.

Pollard, 36, of Burntisland, admitted having cannabis resin in the jail on September 14 last year and subsequently vandalising his cell.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that Pollard had managed to smuggle the Kinder egg into the jail after appearing in court the day before.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie told the court: “Prison officers formed the opinion that the accused was under the influence of drugs as he was unsteady on his feet.

“He was searched and found with 1.8 grams of cannabis resin in a Kinder egg in the waistband of his trousers. He was escorted back to his cell which was undamaged at that time.

“Due to concerns that he was under the influence, he was informed that he would not be getting his methadone and this upset him.

“Prison officers heard smashing sounds coming from within the cell. He was removed from the cell and placed in a segregation unit.

“The damage was ascertained as £714.”

The court was told Pollard had been remanded the previous day and managed to smuggle drugs into the prison.
