Career with the Queen might be on the cards

Anniversaries team is looking for person to write messages on monarch’s behalf

- MIKE MERRITT

The Queen wants somebody to write the thousands of congratulations that she sends out each year.

With an ageing population, it is a job whose workload can only get heavier – especially when your boss herself is only eight years away from getting a 100th birthday card.

The £21,000-a-year assistant anniversaries officer job is based at Buckingham Palace.

“It’s sending congratulations that are never forgotten,” says the advert on the Royal website.

“It’s working in a team with a shared and unique purpose, engaging with the public whilst supporting the Queen’s role.

“This is what makes working for the royal household so exceptional.

“The anniversaries team helps to produce congratulatory messages that provide a vital link between the Queen and the public. You’ll prepare and send out messages that mean so much to so many people.

“Supporting other areas of the team, you’ll also answer varied, and often unique queries, and draft bespoke letters in response to messages sent by the public.

“You’ll be proud of the impact you will have on members of the public, which will drive you to consistently deliver high standards.

“With administration experience, you’re already used to meeting high standards of accuracy within strict deadlines. What’s more, you’ll have great IT skills, swift keyboard skills and ideally experience of database systems.

“Detail focused and capable of processing large volumes of information, you’re organised and flexible in your approach to your daily work.

“Every day, you’ll use your natural communication skills to help all kinds of people with their inquiries both over the phone and in writing.

“You’ll be confident drafting letters and maintaining accurate records.

“Above all, you’ll enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues in order to deliver the exceptional.” Applications close on June 3.

As well as becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch, the Queen has sent more than one million messages of congratulations for special birthdays and anniversaries.

Cards are sent out for 100th and 105th birthdays and beyond, and 60th, 65th, and 70th wedding anniversaries and over. The messages are processed by the Anniversaries Office at Buckingham Palace, and are sent on the Queen’s behalf.

In 2006, the Queen sent a card to a couple celebrating a wonderful 83 years of marriage.

The number of messages sent from the Queen has soared in recent years – a grand total of 53,000 cards were sent in 2014.

In 2000, the Queen Mother received a 100th birthday card from her daughter, delivered at the gates of Clarence House.
