It’s time to follow Lions – Robson

-

Jamie Robson insists Dundee United must take a leaf out of Livingston’s book in their bid to escape the Championship.

The hard-working Lions, boasting one of the smallest budgets in the second tier, claimed promotion via the playoffs, seeing off United over two legs before upsetting the odds to beat Partick Thistle.

While Robson reckons David Hopkin’s men are not always pretty to watch, he has nothing but admiration for the way they impose their style on the opposition, allied with a tireless work ethic and togetherness.

He is adamant some of that fight, to go with United’s flair, could be a title-winning recipe.

“They might not be easy on the eye, but they play to their strengths,” said Robson.

“Livingston show that if any team plays to their strengths what they can achieve, being the first team since Hamilton to get promoted through the play-offs.

“The Championship is a tough league and maybe we need to be a bit more aggressive and we’ll get there in the end.

“Those (Livingston) players have got each others’ backs, in every way all over the pitch, and hopefully next season with the players the gaffer (Csaba Laszlo) brings in, we can get a good bond throughout the team, the way it should be.”

Robson, who signed a new two-year deal with the Tannadice outfit last week, confesses the heartbreak of failing to secure a return to the Premiership was a feeling of devastation he is desperate to avoid next term.

“Top six in the Premiership is where I think United should be. Hopefully, one more year is all it will take,” he said.
