Police appeal for help to track down occupants of stolen Audi involved in tragic three-vehicle collision and potential witnesses in passing car
and his children Arthur and Violet get ready for today’s Muddy Colour Mayhem run at Errol airfield.
Police investigating a fatal crash involving a stolen car have traced a woman who gave first aid to an injured family.
Three cars were directly involved in the collision near the Maybury roundabout in Edinburgh at about 12.30am on Friday May 25.
One of the cars, a Peugeot 206, burst into flames and the driver was found dead inside.
Three people in a BMW, including a five-year-old girl, were taken to hospital for treatment.
A stolen Audi A3, which was being driven recklessly and caused the crash, was found abandoned in Cowdenbeath, Fife, hours after the incident.
Following an appeal police have now traced a woman, believed to be a doctor or health professional, who gave medical assistance to the people in the BMW.
She made contact with officers and will provide a statement to help with the ongoing investigation.
Officers are still trying to trace a small, dark car that was travelling on Maybury Road towards Barnton around the time of the crash and have appealed for the occupants to get in touch.
Detective Inspector Graham Grant said: “We remain extremely keen to identify and speak to those within the dark-coloured hatchback, as they may have useful information that will ultimately help us identify anyone who was within the stolen Audi A3.
“I would like to stress that this car has done absolutely nothing wrong and we just wish the occupants to assist with our inquiries.
“I would also like to reassure our communities that the stolen Audi A3, which was using false registration plate SM17 EAK, has been recovered.
“The vehicle which has this legitimate plate is still within Edinburgh and is not linked to this inquiry.
“If you believe you have any other information relevant to this ongoing investigation then please come forward.”
The Audi was stolen in Edinburgh in April and detectives were hunting its occupants at the time of the crash.
