Out of this world activities will create buzz for £10m space plan

-

Aero Space Kinross will step up its campaign for a £10million Disney-style tourist attraction with a series of local events starting this weekend.

The group, known as ASK, want to open a centre dedicated to air and space travel on the edge of Kinross.

On Saturday, the team will host a Better Place to Live Fair at Loch Leven community campus. The event, from 10am to 2pm, will feature a planetarium and showcase the continuing build-a-plane project.

Meanwhile, ASK colleague and science expert Zoe Garvie will be working some scientific “magic” for children at the nearby Wildhood Children’s Festival at Tullibole Castle.

Chairman Alisdair Stewart said: “We are taking up every opportunity we can to get the word out about our Aero Space Kinross ambitions as our fundraising campaign challenge is well under way. We have already made some very tangible in-roads but are now undertaking the next phase to raise £10 million for our capital project and that is where we need both volunteer and financial support.”

He said: “It is vital we engage with our members and local community to get our message out there and reinforce our efforts. We are constantly looking for new members and volunteers and face-to-face outreach is an ideal way to explain our project.”

The intergalactic project, which hopes to attract some 60,000 visitors to the area each year, is being spearheaded by the Aero Space Scientific Educational Trust (Asset).

Backed by a crowdfunding campaign, the scheme has won support from, among others, TV star Carol Vorderman.
