Second Post Office to return to Crieff after year-long absence
Crieff will soon have two Post Offices again, after one lay empty for a year.
Post Office Ltd announced this week that steps have been taken to open a new branch in the town, to work alongside the King Street branch.
This comes a year after the High Street branch closed its doors due to operational issues.
In August, a second counter was opened in the King Street Post Office to keep up with demand.
Luke Graham, Conservative MP for Ochil and South Perthshire, welcomed the news.
He said: “I am pleased to hear that the process to reopen another Post Office branch in Crieff is now under way.
“Post Offices provide a vital service to the community and a town like Crieff should have access to those services.
“However, it has already gone on too long, which has placed unnecessary additional pressure on the remaining Post Office branch on King Street.
“I hope this will help alleviate some of the pressure and I look forward to seeing the additional services returning to Crieff, which will help service the wider Strathearn community.”
It comes in the same week as it was revealed that a new Post Office service could soon return to Perth’s Letham area.
Post Office Ltd said it was finalising plans for a new counter following the retirement of the local postmaster in March.
A spokesman said: “We have an interested applicant to re-open a Post Office service in the area of Letham. We are progressing their application, so we are unable to comment further at the moment.
“We are committed to restoring Post Office service to this area of Perth.”
