The railways are all threatened with widespread disruption and the cancellation of all Sunday trains by decisions reached yesterday by two unions. After considering the recent pay award of the industry’s arbitration body, the Railway Staffs National Tribunal, the executive of the National Union of Railwaymen, by 12 votes to 11, rejected the tribunal’s findings. They decided to call on members to work only a standard 40-hour week, not to work on Sundays and also to work to rule.
