Dundee United manager adds familiar face to coaching staff
Werner Burger believes the understanding he has with manager Csaba Laszlo will provide a “base” on which to build success.
The new Dundee United firstteam coach is a long-time friend and colleague of the Tannadice gaffer, having worked under Laszlo at Hearts from 2008 to 2011.
As well as his spell at Tynecastle, Burger was the Hungarian’s number two at MTK Budapest and Slovak outfit DAC Dunajska Streda.
The long-anticipated appointment will also see the German team up with Laurie Ellis, who remains the Tangerines’ assistant manager.
Werner said: “Csaba and I have very similar ideas about football and I think you need that as a base to develop a team that is capable of meeting your targets.”
Laszlo added: “I am very pleased Werner has turned down other options in Germany to link up with me here.
“I feel that, together with Laurie, Craig (Easton) and Scott (Robertson), we now have a very strong backroom team to foster the right mentality and team spirit in the squad.”
● Dundee will play a second match during their pre-season training camp in Portugal.
The Dark Blues had already organised a game against LigaPro side SC Farense and have now confirmed they will also face Mansfield.
● Dunfermline have agreed a new one-year deal with Kallum Higginbotham.
The former Falkirk and Partick Thistle forward joined the Pars in 2016 and has agreed to spend a third season at East End Park.
The 28-year-old made 43 appearances last term and was instrumental in the Fifers securing a top-four place to reach the promotion play-offs.
● Florian Kamberi has completed a permanent move to Hibernian on a three-year deal after impressing on loan last season
The 23-year-old scored nine times in 14 appearances after joining the Edinburgh club from Swiss side Grasshopper on transfer deadline day in January.
Hibs have snapped up the forward for an undisclosed fee and the deal is subject to international clearance.
● Rangers have announced a naming rights deal for their training base at Auchenhowie with Danish sportswear company Hummel.
Hummel became Rangers’ kit supplier in April and the three-year deal has been extended to the naming rights for the training complex, which will be known as the Hummel Training Centre.
