Police arrest three over man’s death.
Gathering held in Arbroath to remember Steven Donaldson a week after his body was found
Police investigating the death of Arbroath man Steven Donaldson have arrested three people.
A 19-year-old woman and two 23-yearold men were being questioned last night, a week after Steven’s body was found at Kinnordy Nature Reserve in Kirriemuir.
The 27-year-old tool specialist had left Arbroath for Kirriemuir at 10pm on the Wednesday and was discovered in a car park by two walkers at 5am the following day.
Police said inquiries are continuing, despite the arrests.
The news came as Steven’s friends gathered in Arbroath to mourn his death.
Around 50 people wearing T-shirts bearing the dead man’s photograph took part in an emotional gathering at a wooded area just off Aikman Road.
Young and old stood together as a single red balloon was released.
Earlier, police issued a fresh appeal for information and asked for specific people to come forward.
The occupants of a black Range Rover, who were the subject of a previous appeal, have been traced.
Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent James Smith of the major investigation team said: “Steven’s family and friends are devastated by their loss and our thoughts remain firmly with them during this distressing time.”
He said Steven’s distinctive white BMW M1 was last seen travelling through Kirriemuir at 10.53pm on Wednesday June 6.
“There is still a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle, possibly a Range Rover, that’s been seen parked at the end of a driveway about a half mile east of the Kinnordy Nature Reserve car park, about 10pm that evening which I’m keen to trace,” he said.
“I am still keen to hear from three men, with a dark-coloured vehicle seen within the car park about 8pm that Wednesday evening.”
Mr Smith also wants to speak to a man with dark hair seen in a red Seat in the Kinnordy Nature Reserve car park between 6pm and 8pm.
“Also around 7pm the same evening within the car park a man and woman were seen sitting on the roof of a Land Rover Defender style vehicle, apparently having a picnic,” he said.
“I would appeal to all of these people to come forward.”
He added: “I would like to thank all those who have provided information and assistance in connection with this inquiry so far.”
He said their inquiries are continuing, and urged anyone with information to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
