Dundee United’s new defender Frederic Frans is confident he can lead the way back to the Premiership.

The 29-year-old Belgian centre-back has signed a two-year deal at Tannadice and declared himself “thrilled” to be joining the Tangerines.

Frans played for Partick Thistle in Scotland’s top flight for two seasons before joining Lierse in 2016, leaving them after his hometown club folded at the end of last season.

The 6ft 4in defender said: “I am thrilled to be back in Scotland and to sign for Dundee United.

“It is a beautiful club with an amazing fan base and I am fully focused on helping us achieve our ambitions.

“I loved my time in Scottish football before so I’m glad to be back here.

“I am a leader on the pitch so I hope to bring that to this club.

“Dundee United is a big club and there is a big challenge ahead of us this season but I am looking forward to it. “Promotion is the only aim here.” He added: “I want to be involved in taking the club back to where it belongs.”

United manager Csaba Laszlo added: “I was very keen to bring Freddy to the club this summer and I am delighted to have secured his services.

“He brings us experience, strength and height.

“He can play with both feet, is good in the air and a great person to have in the dressing room.”
