Dods hoping for better luck
Brechin City manager Darren Dods reckons one reason for the Glebe Park men’s tortuous season in the Championship last year is that they were ‘cursed’ in the centre-half position.
Dods explained: “We lost Dougie Hill last summer to Dumbarton but brought in Ryan McGeever from Queen’s Park to give us strength and size at centre back in the Championship.
“Unfortunately he broke a hand before suffering an awkward ankle injury that needed surgery.”
“He missed the first couple of months in the league and was out from October.”
Dods added: “Paul McLean, who can play in there, has missed a couple of months of the season through a knee injury.
“We also brought in Kostadin Gadzhalov from Dundee on a 28-day loan in March and thought that we would get his experience for seven games during the run-in with the option to add to that.
“He suffered a face injury in his first game against St Mirren and then suffered a dislocated shoulder when he came back in and he missed the rest of the season,” he said.
“We only had a small squad and the absence of a dominant centre-half affected us.”
Former Raith Rovers and Alloa centre-half Hill has returned after a season with the Sons and McGeever is due back early in the season, with Dods saying: “We are looking a lot better already.”
