‘Daughter-from-hell’ is jailed for eight months
Perth mother was forced to lock herself in bathroom to escape knife-wielding 21-year-old
A daughter-from-hell who trashed her bedroom and forced her mother to flee at knifepoint has been jailed for eight months.
Sarah Stewart, 21, trapped her mother in a bathroom before trying to kick down the door while she was wielding a large kitchen knife.
A court was told it was the second time she had pulled a knife on her mother Gail Stewart, and that she had also robbed her in another previous incident.
Sheriff Gillian Wade told her: “You have got an appalling record. You have reached the end of the line.
“It must have been a terrifying experience. Your mother wouldn’t have locked herself in the bathroom if she wasn’t upset and frightened.”
Stewart, Myrtle Park, Blairgowrie, admitted throwing items around the house at Trinafour in Perth and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on May 19.
She admitted refusing to leave and kicking a hole in the bathroom door as she tried to force her mother out so she could confront her at knifepoint.
Stewart also admitted assaulting her father Graham Stewart by pushing him on the body and punching him on the head several times.
Fiscal depute Robbie Brown said: “It is her parents’ house. She had been out the previous evening and returned having consumed a large quantity of alcohol.
“At 7.30am her parents heard banging noises, so they went to her bedroom and found it trashed. They requested that she leave or they would call police.
“Her behaviour escalated. She ran downstairs and picked up a large kitchen knife. There was a confrontation with her mother.
“Her mother ran into the bathroom and locked it. The accused kicked a hole in the bathroom door. Her mother managed to get the knife from her and hid it.”
Stewart left the house, but returned an hour later and pushed her father into bushes before punching him in the head and fleeing again.
Solicitor Pauline Cullerton, defending, said: “Since this there has been, and will be, no further relationship with her parents. She fully accepts responsibility for the way she acted towards her parents.
“She is embarrassed and ashamed to have acted in this way towards her parents, who have, despite difficulties in the past, been very supportive.”
In September 2016, Stewart was locked up for 14 months after carrying out an extraordinary catalogue of crime for two years.
She robbed her mother, stole from her sister, carried out eBay fraud, battered a boyfriend, brawled with police officers, challenged a disabled woman to fight and threatened to kill children. She was subject to several bail orders.
