Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher paid tribute to a Fife teenager who was killed after being hit by a taxi.

The singer made a special announcement for 15-year-old James Morrison during his set at the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow on Saturday.

The youngster’s devastated friends had launched a campaign to have the band’s song Little James performed in his honour following his death on Saturday June 16.

Gallagher paused his set to mention the Cowdenbeath teen before performing the hit single Live Forever in his memory.

He told the cheering crowds: “I keep getting this thing on the Twitter about some kid called James up this neck of the woods who passed away and they wanted me to play Little James, but I don’t know if I could go there.

“So I dedicate Live Forever to the man anyway.”

James, from Cowdenbeath, had been walking home from a party in Crossgates when he was struck by the Renault Trafic MPV on the B925 at 11.45pm.

The Celtic fan suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, just four days before his 16th birthday.

Worried friends and family turned to social media to try to trace him after he failed to make it home.

Meanwhile, police issued a plea for information to identify the youngster who wasn’t carrying any identification at the time of the accident.

The tragic connection was made a short time later.

James’ funeral will be held today in Hill of Beath before moving to the cemetery in Cowdenbeath.

A family statement released through Police Scotland said: “James was a caring, fun-loving son, grandson and brother who would do anything for anybody. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

“The family wish to express their thanks for the messages they have received and they wish to be left to come to terms with their loss.”

So I dedicate Live Forever to the man anyway.
