Vikings will invade Perth this summer with an exhibition featuring a 15ft boat, a skeleton and a replica ancient Nordic house being staged at the city’s museum. Vikings: Fearsome Craftsmen explores the day-to-day lives of the formidable Norse warriors and the interactive event will introduce visitors to the Viking way of life, including their craft skills. Those who attend the exhibition, which is being run by the creators of the famous Jorvik Viking Centre in York, can also enjoy seeing a 15ft replica Viking fishing boat and an ancient excavated Viking skeleton. The replica Viking house will also be open to visit at the museum. Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, urged residents and visitors to “seize the opportunity” to experience what she

feels will be a “hit” summer event. She said: “The team at Perth Museum and Art Gallery and across Culture Perth and Kinross have braced ourselves for a very welcome Viking invasion. “The Jorvik Viking Centre is a fantastic step into another time and we are delighted to be hosting an interactive exhibit from the same team, right here in the heart of Scotland. “We look forward to welcoming visitors who have an interest in these incredibly intelligent and creative Norse warriors, and those who are curious to learn more about them in a fun familyfriendly environment.” This is the latest exhibit to take place at Perth Museum. The building has also hosted Picts and Pixels last summer and Brick City in spring last year. Brick City celebrated Lego models of the world’s most iconic buildings. The Viking exhibition will run at Perth Museum and Art Gallery from July 7 until September 23. The Jorvik centre in York is one of the country’s premier visitor attractions. It features an interactive “ridethrough” display of Viking life, with seated participants encountering the sights, sounds and smells of ancient Nordic life as they travel back in time to a replica village.
