Venues across Perthshire and Fife collected a raft of honours at this year’s food industry Oscars, cementing the area’s reputation as having the height of good taste. Five Perth and Kinross establishments were recognised at national level in the annual Food Awards Scotland ceremony in Glasgow, while another three received regional titles. Fife restaurants scooped a national prize and three victories in the regional sections. Nawaab of Perth took home the Best Indian Establishment award, while chef Praveen Kumar of Tabla in Perth won Cookery School of the Year for his Indian Cook School. The top prize for Seafood Supplier of the Year went to Fish in Crieff. Another Crieff contender, the Rooftop Restaurant at Knock Castle Hotel and Spa took home the award for Hotel Restaurant of the Year. The final national Perthshire winner was Robertson’s Dairy in Blairgowrie, which was named Dairy Food Provider of the Year. In Fife, St Andrews-based The Grange Inn took home the Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year title. The successes come after the Scottish Food Awards crowned the city of Perth Food Town of the Year earlier this year. The winners are chosen by the public. Organisers say the prizes are recognition of the success of local professionals and businesses that deliver great experiences to customers. A spokesperson for Food Awards Scotland said: “We are very delighted to have welcomed such great finalists and winners at the Food Awards Scotland 2018 and celebrated the food industry with them. “These awards aimed to thank those that work hard in the Scottish food industry and contribute to making Scotland a great place to visit. “It is true that Scotland combines tastes and flavours from all over the world and our visitors can find different restaurants, gastro pubs and bistros. “These people enhance the country’s reputation nationally and internationally and we wanted to make sure that the hard work of Scottish food professionals doesn’t go unnoticed. “It was lovely to be part of this celebration and we would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements.”
