Swim club announces law firm sponsorship
Perth swimming club enters deal with local business to financially support swimmers
Perth City Swim Club has been given a huge boost ahead of its annual club championships this weekend with the announcement of a major sponsorship deal with leading law firm Thorntons.
The firm has agreed an annual sponsorship deal which involves a significant financial contribution for the club to support its swimmers.
The deal is set to be extended for a further two years beyond the initial 12-month investment.
World, Olympic, European and Commonwealth medallist Stephen Milne officially welcomed the deal along with Perth City Swim Club president Carol McPartland.
The 2018 championships – which will see almost all of the club’s 130 swimmers compete across events tomorrow and Sunday – will be the first event backed by Thorntons.
The firm has commissioned a giant banner in the club’s blue and red colours to provide a backdrop for the festival of racing at Perth Leisure Pool.
The Thorntons logo will also feature across the club’s social media channels.
Thorntons’ Perth managing partner, Bruce Renfrew, said: “Thorntons is very excited to be able to formalise a sponsorship deal with the club. From our new offices we practically look out on to the pool.
“It seemed an obvious thing for us to support, as we know how successful the club has been in recent years and the benefit that brings to the city of Perth and the surrounding community.
“We are delighted to welcome Stephen Milne along to our office today and he has been good enough to bring his medals to show our staff the rewards for all his hard work over the years.
“Like any sports club there are financial challenges and we feel it is important for prominent businesses like ours to support community organisations where we can.
“The club has had an impressive record of turning out world class athletes, most recently Stephen Milne, and we want to assist in doing that in the years to come.
“We hope our financial support can bring continued success for the club and inspire swimmers of the future.
“The initial arrangement is to sponsor the club until 2021, but we are already looking beyond that to work together for many more years.”
Carol said: “Financial support is always welcome as our club is predominantly run by volunteers, so we are delighted to welcome Thorntons on board. It is not just about producing elite swimmers for national and international events. Part of our remit is to make swimming accessible at grassroots level and this kind of sponsorship can help with that.
The championships take over the training pool throughout the weekend, and feature swimmers from as young as six to the club’s senior swimmers.
We hope our financial support can bring continued success for the club and inspire swimmers of the future
