Currie flavour of the month... but remains benched

- by Lindsay Herron

Darren Young admits he loves a hot Currie but he’s not ready yet to make him dish of the day.

Hearts starlet Rory Currie has come off the bench and slammed four goals in four games to help East Fife up to third in League One and into the last eight of the Irn-Bru Cup.

But the Methil men have been doing so well that Young can’t yet give Currie a start.

It’s a great problem to have for Young, who has been named manager of the month.

The former Aberdeen star said: “Rory has come on the last four games and scored a goal in each of them so he has been making a fantastic impact.

“He was a wee bit unfortunate because Hearts recalled him to play for their under-21s.

“And off the back of that two strikers scored and they got their places in the team.

“So Rory’s a bit unlucky but it’s a good problem for me to have.

“We’ve got four quality strikers which has made a massive difference as well. They’re all pushing for a start.”

The Fifers have had five wins in a row after a shaky start and Young hopes that can continue when they travel to Forfar today.

He said: “We’ve had a great month and it has basically been down to the fact that everyone is together.

“We have been playing well since the start of the season but we have achieved the wins in the last month or so to make our hard work count.

“Everyone is buying into what we are doing and we are now taking our chances as well as keeping clean sheets.

“We feel if we stop other teams scoring it’s as good as a goal because we feel we will score at the other end so long may that continue.

“Most of the squad is fit now and that’s keeping the players on their toes.

“I now have the situation where I’m having to leave players out and that’s not normally the case in League One and League Two.

“All of the players are hungry and we really want to press on and made October another month to remember.”

Forfar’s defensive options will be stretched for today’s clash.

The Loons are likely to be without both Andy Munro and Michael Travis for the contest.

Boss Jim Weir said: “Andy had to come off just before half-time last weekend with a knee injury.

“He hasn’t trained this week and is unlikely to play.

“Michael Travis is going to a wedding.” Lewis Moore and John Baird are also “struggling” to be fit, Weir revealed.
