Cross shearling makes record price at lamb sale

United Auctions, Stirling, had an entry of 1,217 rams and ram lambs at their rendezvous sale.

A record price of £4,200 for a cross shearling consigned by Dalchirla Farms was paid by Glenalmond Farms.

Top Suffolk price was £1,000 for one from R H Goldie, Harpercrof­t, sold to Coull Farm, Islay.

In the Llyens a top of £550 was paid twice for shearlings from H Goldie, South Bowerhouse­s, to A & F Skene, Cairncross, and M/s Gillan, Drumcarro.

Top price in BFL section was £850, consigned by H Brown, Leadburn Lea, and purchased by C McMillan, Ardbeg.

In the Beltex Section I Reid, Isle Cottage, sold the top price of £1,400 from M/s Warnock Gartfinnan.

The Texel section was topped by J Buchan, Torrax, at £1,300 and £1,200, both purchased by J S McLaren, Dalcapon.

A top of £1,000 was paid for Cheviot shearlings from M/s Pate Stobshiel Mains twice, purchased by M/s McLaren, Dalcapon, and G Milne, Kinaldy.

Shearling averages: Suffolk £444.75 (+£26.78 on the year). LLeyn £188.26 (-£71.02), Beltex £571.07 (+£119.46), Texel £505.78 (+£39.64), Charollais £233.81 (+£12.06), BFL £326.69 (-£13.31 ), Cross £527.15 (+£9.08 ).

Ram Lambs Suffolk £322.22 (+£75.79 on the year), Texel £285.00 (-£45.32), BFL £254.71 (-£131.92 ), Cross £252.00 (-£24.86 ).
