Jackson at the double as Brechin win on road

AIRDRIEONIANS 1 BRECHIN CITY 3

Andy Jackson was delighted his two goals helped Brechin secure victory and extend their unbeaten record to six games.

After four draws, Brechin fought back from a goal down to seal a vital three points to edge closer to top-ofthe-table Arbroath.

With a quarter of the season gone, Brechin have now played against every team in the league and Jackson believes his side stand a real chance.

He said: “There’s been lots of draws but it still gives you confidence to go unbeaten. We’ve played everyone now, we were two down to Arbroath and should have won that game and Raith Rovers at home we should have won.

“They are the top two currently and we don’t fear anyone, we know if we play to our best then we can match them all.”

The Glebe Park men had an unforgettable season last year – for all the wrong reasons – becoming the first Scottish club in 126 years to endure an entire league season without a victory.

Darren Dods’ side struggled against full-time opponents and only accumulated four points from 36 games to finish 26 points adrift at the bottom of the table.

But the board backed Dods and Jackson insisted the squad are desperate to test themselves again in the Championship.

He said: “We need to take every game as they come and see where that gets us. The aim is promotion because we got relegation last season and we want to get back up and try to make a better account for ourselves than last time.”

Brechin showed great resolve to secure their first away win in 18 months, fighting back after the hosts had taken a deserved lead on 15 minutes when Joao Vitoria gathered Kyle Wilkie’s pass and fired high into the net.

It took three minutes for Brechin to peg back their opponents when Jackson prodded past David Hutton before a stunning Sean Burns strike gave the visitors the lead five minutes into the second half.

Jackson killed the game as a contest with his second goal on 68 minutes. He weaved his way into the box before brilliantly curling the ball past Hutton.

Jackson said: “The first goal was just a one-on-one. For my second, I’ve heard Callum Tapping say to cut it back but it’s just happened so quickly and it’s probably one of my better goals.”
