Battling Blue Brazil scramble to three priceless points

-

COWDENBEATH 1 STIRLING ALBION 0

A gallant display by Cowdenbeath’s 10 men gave them a very important three Ladbrokes League 2 points.

The managerless visitors were one point ahead of the Blue Brazil before the start so Cowden needed the win to avoid falling near bottom spot.

They started well with David Marsh blasting home an eight-yarder on six minutes but then on 27 minutes home trialist Gary Fraser was sent off for a high challenge on Kevin Moon.

However, the short-handed Fifers defended well. Albion, battled away but they found it hard to make an impact. Home keeper Dave McGurn only had two difficult saves to make.

At the other end Marsh should have given Martin Scott a tap-in but chose to go for goal himself and skimmed the bar with a header.

Manager Gary Bollan was delighted with his team’s performance. He said: “We started the game really well and scored in only six minutes and could have had another but then we saw Gary Fraser get red-carded.

“It meant we had to reduce our firepower to get another midfielder on and it completely ruined our planning for the match.

“However, the players buckled down. Our keeper Dave McGurn was certainly not overworked.

“If we keep picking up points we can get right in amongst the middle pack of clubs and that has to be our aim.”
