Lennon admits sympathy for Accies boss after rout

-

Neil Lennon admits he empathises with humiliated Hamilton boss Martin Canning after Hibernian dished out a 6-0 drubbing.

The Leith side racked up their biggest league win in 12 years as they crushed the hapless Accies at Easter Road.

But Lennon took no pleasure in seeing his counterpart trudge down the tunnel at full-time, saying he had felt the same sense of shame after his Celtic side were ripped apart 6-1 by Barcelona back in 2013.

He said: “We’ve all been there. I remember being in Barcelona and being 3-0 down at half-time and I said to Charlie Mulgrew go on there and stop the bleeding. It was 4-0 after 46 minutes, so we’ve all been on the end of it.

“Of course I have sympathy for Martin but I am not patronising him, he’s done an amazing job and he’ll continue to do so.

“Pound for pound he’s getting results he really shouldn’t be getting. We were due a win today, so it was unfortunate for Hamilton.”

Stevie Mallan scored twice, while strikes from Martin Boyle, Emerson Hyndman, Flo Kamberi and a Matt Kilgallon own goal completed the visitors’ misery.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was missing eight players through injury in Saturday’s 4-1 win over St Mirren, with centre-back Scott McKenna also unavailable after starting a two-match suspension.

However, the Dons manager believes at least three of those players will be fit for the trip to face Hearts in a fortnight’s time.

He said: “At this moment in time it’s Aberdeen’s turn to deal with a lot of injuries, and we’ve certainly not had decisions going for us in terms of suspensions.”

Keaghan Jacobs was the saviour for Livingston as they extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at struggling Motherwell.
