Perthshire gallery to showcase local artist’s work in exhibition

-

An exhibition of paintings by a Perthshire artist will go on show at a local gallery this weekend.

The Strathearn Gallery in Crieff will showcase paintings by Ron Lawson to celebrate 40 years since his work was first exhibited.

The display named The Grey Light will show more than 50 new paintings by Mr Lawson, inspired by his trips to Hebrides.

During his time working with DC Thomson for 34 years, Mr Lawson has presented his work across the UK.

After first showcasing to small galleries in Angus in 1978, the event will celebrate his 40year career.

Mr Lawson said: “After a lifetime of painting, it’s still an enormous thrill and incredibly satisfying to see my work completed, framed and on display.

“The reaction from people, some of whom have become interested enough in my work to start collecting, is extremely gratifying.

“It’s all the encouragement an artist needs to keep going.”

Strathearn Gallery owner Susan Benner said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ron back to the gallery for his largest show to date.

“It’s always a great privilege to showcase Ron’s work and it’s always a busy time for the gallery.

“Our last solo exhibition with Ron in October 2016 was a tremendous success, selling out after a whirlwind opening weekend – something few artists achieve.

“It’s entirely deserved recognition for his work and the response his work generates,” she added.

The Grey Light will open on Saturday at 10am and runs until November 11.
