The 2018 SANACC Champion of Champions Final was held on LAKE OF MENTEITH last Friday.

More than 60 competitors took part, having won their place from one of the Saturday night heats of the Scottish Club Championship at Lake of Menteith.

The top five from each heat qualified for a place in the ‘Champions’ and where an angler couldn’t take up their place it was offered to the next highest competitor from the same heat.

The match was fished on a partial catch and release with the first two trout being retained and 2lb awarded for each returned fish.

Top rod was Bobby Quinn, of Ayr Travellers, with 19 trout for 38lbs 14.4ozs.

Bobby qualified for the final from heat 10 where his five fish had put him in fifth place.

His club finished in fourth in that heat and just missed a spot in the semis.

He caught his fish steadily throughout the day and took six at Shear Point, another six at Lochend and seven at International Bay.

John Maestri, of Blackloch AC, who was runner-up, had a slow start to the day and took most of his trout in the afternoon.

He was fishing cormorants and diawl bachs on a 3ft midge tip at Hotel Bay, the pier and Lochend and with 19 trout for 37lbs 5.8ozs he was just pipped at the post and had to settle for seond place.

The 2013 champion John Buchanan, of Costa Ecosse, was third with 15 trout for 29lbs 13.1ozs.

Eck Moffat, of Dalzell AC, caught the heaviest fish (6lbs 13.2ozs) in the heats when he was competing in heat 12.

This Sunday KINROSS TROUT FISHERY hosts the only Scottish Float Tube competition on the calendar.

With sponsorship from The Fishing Megastore, Edinburgh Angling Centre, Grouse & Claret Restaurant as well as £600 cash prize money and trophies, the event marks the launch of a competition which will run monthly heats throughout 2019.

MONIKIE is doing well this week with fish chasing fry patterns and lures now that the water is cooled.

Successful patterns include black booby with yellow eyes and a pink lure on a Di3.

Last Chance Shield was won by Ron Gray with two and five returned for 14lb 7oz, second was Gordon Armstrong with two and four returned for 13lb 7oz and third was Colin Nicoll with two and three returned for 12lb 7oz. The 18 rods returned 41 for 103lb 8oz.
