Search on for building of the decade

- GRAHAM BROWN Previous winner: The restored Auchmull sporting lodge.

The search is on to find Angus’s Building of the Decade.

Ten years after the restored Auchmull sporting lodge in Glen Esk was declared the last overall winner of the Angus Design Awards, the competition has been relaunched to showcase the new build, conversion and restoration excellence across the district.

Projects completed between 2008 and 2018 are eligible for submission in an event which will now be staged every two years, with the public being given their chance to pick the winners.

The authority said the awards were an opportunity to celebrate the best design, development and restoration over the past decade, as well as inspiring exceptional quality in future proposals.

Development standards committee convener David Lumgair said: “Good design delivers benefits for everyone in Angus. For residents, it can reduce energy costs, improve health and wellbeing, enhance safety, engender civic pride and promote social inclusion.

“The creation of well-designed places where people want to live and to visit can also help to attract further investment in the area.”

Independent judges will select a single project for commendation within four award categories: new build (single house); new build (all development excluding single houses); extension to an existing building; and restoration/ conversion of an existing building

Members of the public will then be able to vote for their favourite project via an online poll run by The Courier.

Award entries can be submitted from Monday October 29.

The closing date is 4pm on Friday November 30.

Application forms and guidance are available via the Angus Design Awards page on the council’s website.

Only works completed between November 1 2008 and October 31 2018 will be considered.
