SWIMMING

GLENROTHES SUCCESSFUL Glenrothes ASC swimmers enjoyed a successful day at the Carnegie Graded Meet on Sunday.

It is the second gala in as many outings where the team have come home with an award.

After receiving the George Donn trophy at the Fife Championships last month, the team collected the best visiting club award at the Carnegie Meet – a notable start to the season for club head coach Joanna Laing, who was appointed last month. The team of 22 swimmers recorded 44 personal bests while collecting 14 gold medals, 10 silvers, 11 bronze and two “too fast” awards.

Great team spirit from the swimmers throughout the day was infectious and the performances were certainly encouraging for the next quarter, which sees the first round of this year’s East District Age Group Championships kick off next month.

TABLE TENNIS

DUNDEE A LEAD WAY

Dundee A lead Division Two following the first day of SNL Table Tennis matches at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth on Saturday. With wins over Glasgow South A (5-1) and South Ayrshire A (5-1) and a 3-3 draw with Murrayfield C, the team of Robert Toth, Mark Lundberg and Grant Williams top the table on games difference.

Also in Division Two, Dundee B scored wins against Stirling and North Merchiston 2, both by 4-2 margins, but Callum Riddoch, Stuart Halliday and Michael Hahn suffered a 2-4 reverse at the hands of Glasgow South A, leaving them in fifth position at the end of the day’s play.

The city’s three most promising youngsters – David Hay, Andrew Nimmo and Jacob Munro – have entered the newly-formed Division Five as Dundee C.

They suffered two 2-4 defeats at the hands of West Lothian and Edinburgh University but the trio can take heart in finishing the day with a 6-0 victory against South Ayrshire D.
