Pavol’s performance no surprise to his new boss
DUNDEE UNITED: Robbie Neilson had already seen striker playing for Aalborg
Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson has revealed he watched Pavol Safranko in action when the frontman was still playing in Denmark.
Neilson knew exactly what he was getting from the Slovakian striker on his arrival at Tannadice, having seen the player feature for his parent club Aalborg.
Safranko appeared 15 times for the Danes last season before making the loan switch to Scotland in August.
So Neilson wasn’t surprised to see Safranko pounce to score what turned out to be the winning goal against Partick Thistle on Saturday and is looking for more from him when Inverness come calling this weekend.
The United manager said: “Pavol has physicality and I’d like to get to two up top because we’ve got some really good strikers.
“We’ve got Safranko but there is also Craig Curran, Nicky Clark and the young boy Matty Smith as well.
“At this moment in time Safranko (leading the line) is the best option until we can get all our players back to full fitness.
“No matter how much you want to talk about playing football, playing through the lines and stuff, you have to have someone who can link the game for you as well and stretch it.
“He does a lot of that and I have been really impressed with him since I arrived here.
“I saw him play prior to his coming here when was at Aalborg, so for me to come here and have him here is very pleasing.”
Meanwhile, United’s Championship clash with Alloa at Tannadice has been rescheduled to Tuesday November 20 (7.45pm).
The switch is due to the Wasps being involved in the Irn-Bru Cup on the original date of Saturday November 17.
